Aesthetics Map

An interactive map of 1,031 aesthetic styles scraped from the Aesthetics Wiki — laid out so that similar aesthetics appear close together.

How positions work

Two signals pull aesthetics toward each other: links (pages that reference each other in their infoboxes) and text similarity (pages that describe themselves in similar language). Both are blended into a single distance and compressed into 2D using UMAP.

Colors & regions

The colored territories are broad clusters found automatically by the Louvain community detection algorithm. Every aesthetic inherits its color from its cluster. The colored region names that appear as you zoom in are chosen to be distinctive — a label is picked only if it characterizes that cluster more than any other.

How to explore

Nodes & edges

Node size reflects how many connections an aesthetic has. Edges are drawn between pages that reference each other; stronger or bidirectional links have higher weight and pull nodes closer together. There are 5,307 edges total across the 1,031 nodes.
